Celebration Service In Loving Memory of Claudette Alexis Descollines June 7, 1934 – April 2, 2023 Claudette Alexis Descollines was born on June 7, 1934 alongside her twin sister, Marie Alexis Molin in Cavaillon, Haiti to Thelanie Alexis Badette (Mother) and Luc Smarth (Father). She leaves behind four sisters and seven brothers: Marie Alexis Molin, Rose Michelle Novembre, Celine Smarth, Yves-Marie Badette, William Smarth, Gerard Smarth, Rony Smarth, Luc Smarth, Weller Smarth, Jean Badette and Jocelyn Badette, their spouses, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew Claudette, knows that she was a devoted wife to her deceased husband Gerard. They married in 1967 and were together for 56 years until his death in 2013. She was his sole caregiver as he battled Parkinson’s disease over several years. Although they never had children of their own, they were surrounded by many nieces and nephews whom they loved and were very proud of. Claudette had a happy spirit. She loved children and was godmother to many. In Cavaillon, she was teacher at an all-girl’s school. She had a wonderful sense of humor but was also a task master, always reminding everyone what they needed to do. While living in the U.S she had several jobs, her favorite was her role at a bank in Manhattan where she worked for several years until her retirement. She spent many enjoyable years of her retirement in Haiti. She loved living in Tecina and getting together with family, friends and occasionally enjoyed playing Tennis. Claudette loved being with family and friends and telling jokes. She always wanted to hear stories about her grandnieces and nephews, especially the very little ones. She enjoyed taking walks on Broadway, stopping at the local store to play scratch numbers, and stirring up conversations in French. Also, during her quiet time, she enjoyed literature and poetry. Claudette was cared for and loved by her family and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in her memory to: Zanmi La Sante (Haiti)
