Obituary of Albert E Nelson

Please share a memory of Albert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Albert Nelson (Bert) passed away on March 12, after a long illness. He is survived by his partner of 33 years, Barbara Galecki, and his twin sister, Lois De Setto. Bert graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Stony Brook University and a Master’s Degree from Baruch College. He had a long career in finance working in several major banks in New York City. Bert had a keen mind and was curious about many things. His many hobbies included photography, daily crossword puzzles, hiking, biking, and canoeing. He belonged to the Appalachian Mountain Club since the early 70’s and developed many lifelong friendships with its members. He also enjoyed his weekly exercise sessions at Echo Park. This created a close nit group that would regularly meet for breakfast. Bert’s real passion was cooking, and he loved to experiment with different spices and cuisines. He gave so much love to his family and friends. Bert will be missed by all. A personal message from Barbara: Bert was a very kind, sensitive, loving, compassionate, intellectual man who not only exhibited these traits with me but also to his friends and colleagues; some of whom have been in his life for more than fifty years. When I first met Bert, I wrote him a poem which sentiments remained in our lifetime together. “I have neither to weigh my thoughts, nor measure my words but pour them all out just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that your faithful hand will take and sift them, keeping what is worth keeping, then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.” I have been truly blessed to have shared 33 years with this very special man.
