Obituary of Virgina Puzzio

Virginia Puzzio, age 92, of Franklin Square, New York, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023. She was born on November 12, 1930 at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan as Virginia Pizzurro, the daughter of Francesco and Anna (Pizzo) Pizzurro. She was raised in the Bronx with her sister, Josephine (Josie), and her brothers Frankie and Joseph. She met and married Louis Puzzio, a produce sales manager also of the Bronx, in January of 1952 and they had four children: Gloria Jean Puzzio-Clarke (deceased husband Michael J. Clarke), Catherine Puzzio Florio (husband Peter Florio), Anthony Puzzio (wife Linda McElroy), and Louis Puzzio Jr. She worked as a School Bus Matron at Varsity in the Bronx and retired at age 57; she continued working as a bookkeeper and officially retired in 2008 at the age of 78. Virginia loved singing and dancing, cooking, and puzzles and board games, especially scrabble and playing mahjong on her iPad. She loved watching old time movies and listening to Frank Sinatra records. Her favorite moments were the ones spent with her children, grandchildren: Garry Michael Clarke (wife Tammy Allen Clarke), Keith Owen Clarke, Elena Clarke, Anthony Puzzio Jr., Cara Michelle Puzzio, Dana Michelle Florio, Emmett J. Florio, Jenna Lynn Puzzio (husband Kory Kahley), and great-grandchildren: Emma Clarke, Riley Clarke, Andrew Clarke, Anna Clarke, and Fiona Rae Puzzio. While we grieve the loss of her treasured spirit, we find comfort in knowing she is finally reunited with her parents and siblings. A viewing service will be held Monday, February 6, 2023 at Krauss Funeral Home from 8:30-10:30 am for family and friends to pay their respects, followed by Mass at St. Anne’s Church at 11:15 am (35 Dartmouth St. Garden City, NY 11530.) Her burial will take place afterward at St. Raymond’s Cemetery at 1:15 pm (2600 Lafayette Ave, Bronx, NY 10465.)
