Obituary of Marcelino Cano

Please share a memory of Marcelino to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marcelino "Lino" Cano passed away peacefully on October 27, 2022 at the age of 91. Lino was the seventh of 8 children born to Marcelino Caño González and Encarnación Neira Moscoso in Mera, a small fishing village in Galicia, Spain. He immigrated to the United States with his mother when he was 15 years old. Lino worked several odd jobs as a teenager to help support his family. A few years later, his love for his adopted country prompted him to enlist in the U.S. Army. He was immediately deployed to serve in the Korean War as a cook. Soon after his honorable discharge in 1953, he met the love of his life, Louise. They married in 1955 and went on to have three daughters. He was a self-sacrificing and hard-working father who was especially proud that all three went on to earn college degrees. Lino was also known as a prankster and loved trying to fool people with his tall tales. After working as a short-order cook and then retiring as a New York City bus driver, Lino enjoyed spending more time with family, watching NFL football, and encouraging his wife's artistic talents until she passed away in 2013. Lino is survived by his daughters Laurie Barrows (Larry), Susan Randazzo (Salvatore), and Annmarie Caño (Lee Wurm), as well as 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members. Funeral services are being planned at Krauss Funeral Home and St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Franklin Square, New York. In lieu of flowers, consider a gift to the Marcelino and Louise Cano Endowed Scholarship at Wayne State University, Hospice of Spokane, or your local hospice care provider. A wake will be held at 9am on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Krauss Funeral Home in Franklin Square followed by a funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Sienna Church at 10:30am (Franklin Square).
