Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Evelyn Cozier Redman of Franklin Square, New York passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2022. She was 87 years old. Born on February 24, 1935, in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Arthur and Iris Cozier, Evelyn spent the early years of her life in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, where she attended the Colegio de Santo Domingo and then moved to New York, where she graduated from Sewanhaka High School. Evelyn went on to earn her BS in nursing from Keuka College and began her nursing career in the Neonatal Unit of North Shore University Hospital. She took great pride in her work and thoroughly enjoyed caring for the newborn infants. In 1965, Evelyn married Colvin M. Redman. They had three children, Paul, Elizabeth and Mark, and Evelyn devoted her time to raising her children and creating a loving home. She later returned to her nursing career as a school nurse at Polk Street School in the Franklin Square School District, where she worked until her retirement. Evelyn had a wonderful spirit for volunteerism and a true passion for helping others. Throughout her children’s school years, she was an active volunteer at both Washington Street School and H. Frank Carey High School, serving in the PTA in many capacities, including President. Evelyn was also a dedicated member of her church community at Christ Episcopal Church in Garden City where she served on the vestry and for many years was head of their Sunday school program. In retirement, Evelyn’s greatest joy was spending time and creating countless memories with her family, especially her five grandchildren who she loved immensely. Evelyn endured a long and challenging struggle with Alzheimer’s later in life and it was comforting to see that someone who devoted her life to caring for others was so lovingly cared for by those around her in return. Evelyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Colvin; her children, Paul (Yvonne) Redman, Elizabeth (George) Kokinis, and Mark (Jennifer) Redman; and her grandchildren, Marissa Kokinis, Luke Redman, Peter Kokinis, Ella Kokinis and William Redman.
