Obituary of Madeline Gallipoli

Please share a memory of Madeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Madeline Gallipoli, 82, died peacefully on February 19, 2022 in Rockville Centre, New York. Madeline was born to Richard and Alice Hintz on May 15, 1939 in Brooklyn. Madeline was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Walter. A woman of great love and compassion, Madeline grew up in Brooklyn and Elmhurst, Queens, where she met the love of her life, Vincent Gallipoli, while she was working at Woolworths. Madeline & Vincent married on June 28, 1958 at St. Leo’s Church in Corona and began a 64 year love story. Initially making their home in Queens, they temporarily moved to Savannah Georgia while Vincent was an MP in the Army. In 1966 they moved to Elmont, Long Island where Madeline became a full-time mother to her two children, Marianne and Thomas. Prior to the children, Madeline had worked at the Elmont Public Library, so she frequently took the children to the library for story hours and Summer reading competitions, and both Marianne and Thomas are now avid readers. Madeline & Vincent were always on the go, taking the kids on trips to the beach, the city and to visit family. Always looking for a new challenge, Madeline became a Girl Scout leader, learned to drive and perfected her chocolate cake recipe, which won the Long Island Baking competition on more than one occasion. As the children grew up, Madeline decided to go back to work at the Elmont Library, where she became the Administrative Assistant to the Director. She loved her work at the library and she treasured the many close friendships that she made there. After she retired, she embraced her newfound time and went on vacation. Madeline and Vincent took numerous cruises, including on the Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mary. Madeline traveled the California coast with her daughter, and she and Vincent took numerous trips with their son Thomas and his wife, Nilda. Madeline’s compassion knew no bounds. She was always ready to lend a hand, or a shoulder to cry on, to anyone in need. She loved knitting blankets for babies and for veterans with her knitting group. Avid animal lovers, Madeline and Vincent rescued numerous cats, finding them homes (many times with them)!. Although no longer with us, Madeline will live on in the memories of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
