Obituary of Joan Montalbano

Joan Montalbano, of Franklin Square, NY passed away peacefully on January 14, 2022 at the age of 97 years old. She lived a full, active life and will be missed by all who knew her. She was born in St Alban’s, England on May 26, 1924. She was in trade school for dressmaking when World War II broke out. She was then recruited to work at an airplane manufacturing company to support the war effort. She worked on the assembly line building British war planes. It was during WWII that Joan met her future husband and the love of her life, Frank Montalbano. Frank was a Staff Sargent in the US Army, American 8th Air Force working as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic at Thurleigh Air Base in England. They married on April 7, 1945 and Joan moved to the United States. They remained married for 77 wonderful years. Joan loved raising her children, being active in the PTA, volunteering for The March of Dimes, and was active in the Republican Party. She enjoyed cooking, bowling, bingo, exercise classes, and walking around the Franklin Square neighborhood. Joan and Frank also made wonderful memories together in Atlantic City and traveling back to England and other countries in Europe. She is lovingly remembered by her children Elissa Kolackovsky, Joanne Tamberelli, and Frank Montalbano along with their spouses and 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Krauss Funeral Home, Franklin Square, NY, on January 19th, 2022 from 9am to 9:30am. Religious Service will be offered from Christ Episcopal Church, Garden City, NY, on January 19th, 2022 from 10am-10:45am. The Funeral Service and Interment will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Pinelawn, NY, on January 19th, 2022 from 12pm-12:30 pm.
