Obituary of Donald H. MacDonald

Our beloved "Donnie", Donald Hugh MacDonald, passed away at the age of 81 on November 22, 2021. He lived courageously with Parkinson's for nearly two decades, and never let it cloud his always sunny disposition. Don was born to Duncan and Jessie MacDonald on August 21, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY and was the eldest of six brothers, a role he cherished. Donnie married Teresa Kelly and shared 51 years of marriage and was an extraordinary father to James and Ann Marie. He loved nothing more than being in the company of family and friends. One of his favorite places on earth was Cape Breton Island, the birthplace of his parents. Scottish bagpipes and fiddles were sure to put a smile on his face and he was truly happy when visiting with his Nova Scotia family. Don, the "telephone man", worked for the New York phone company starting in 1961 at age 21 until his retirement in 2003. He delighted in the thousands of human connections he made installing and repairing people's phone lines throughout the borough of Brooklyn. He truly relished in the simple joys of life; Carvel ice cream, a slice of Umberto's pizza, 7pm Jeopardy, and a good practical joke. His National Geographic Magazine collection and lifetime membership were a true source of pride for him. No matter what obstacles came Don's way, he managed to find a little bit of humor in every situation. Don was preceded in death by his father, Duncan, his mother, Jessie, and his brother John Angus. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Teresa, his children, James and Ann Marie, her husband Thomas, grandchildren, Arthur and Alice, brothers Duncan, Robert, Andrew, and Philip as well as many beloved sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Catholic funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 27th, at 9:15 am at Our Lady of Victory Parish in Floral Park, NY. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Michael J.
