Obituary of Loretta Dainton

Loretta Dainton passed away September 28. 2021. She was born April 30.1920 In Brooklyn, NY she the oldest of five children. Loretta’s parents came to America in 1915 during the height of World War I from Bari Italy. Loretta like a lot of women during the Great Depression found herself working as a factory worker in New York City’s once vibrant Garment industry as a laborer. It was in this line of work she would find herself working for the next several decades were she ended up meeting her two best friends Bina and Anna. Loretta was born and raised in the Bedford Stuyvesant and Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn but in 1956 made the move out too Long Island where she settled in Elmont and would live for the next twenty-one years. In between that time span she did live in Rome, Italy for six months to help chaperone and prepare wedding arrangements for her niece. After staying overseas for those six months Loretta returned home where she went about her daily life until a few years later she met her future husband Dale Dainton of the Bronx. Loretta later went on to marry Dale on June 6, 1977 in City Island where should would reside for the next seven years. Unfortunately, Loretta marriage was short lived and she became a widow in 1981. It was in 1984 that Loretta decided to leave the Bronx and move back to Long Island and live with her younger sister Frances in Franklin Square were Loretta has lived ever since. Loretta did not drive and transportation included mostly of walking, the bus or a ride from a family friends. Loretta Dainton will be remembered as a vibrant full of joy social butterfly who was always down to attend a party and love to cook for family and friends. Everyone who knew her will always remember her having a cold one at every meal at dinner time her favorite brand being Budweiser and then later on Bud light, if no beer was available a glass of red wine will do or in her earlier years she would enjoy a Manhattan or two. Loretta had no children of her own but is survived by 37 nieces and nephews. Her presence, cooking and smile and her favorite line when ending a phone conversation “love you more” will be deeply missed.
